I was wondering if anyone can help me pinpoint what is making this noise when I am making sharp left turns. It sounds like the brake pad scraping against the rotor. It only happens during sharp turns where the steering wheel is almost turned to its limit.
I already took apart and lubed the caliper slide pins and caliper guide rails. There was a bit of corrosion. The inner pad has 3.5mm left and the outer 7.5mm. The rotor doesn't appear to be rubbing against the dust shield. There is virtually no play on the wheel when it is jacked up.
I recorded the video of me making a continuous sharp counter-clockwise circle. Sorry about the wind noise, but you can here a noise like someone is sharpening a knife on a stone.....that's the noise I'm talking about.
I sanded the band as smooth as possible, but it still has a rough texture.
I'm gong to order new rotors.
At least I solved the noise issue. It's gone now.
I use SIL-GLYDE it keeps them well lubricated. Just don't over do it, because they will get stuck. Just lightly coat the pins, and you should be good.
As in too much grease in the hole creates a hydraulic lock. Most slide pins have a tiny grove in them just to allow air and excessive grease out but too much is too much and it will limit slide travel.
What's the consensus on compressing the piston? Open the bleeder valve or open the reservoir cap? I don't want to risk breaking off the bleeder valve, yet I don't want to risk damaging the ABS.
The passenger rear rotors has two lines around the perimeter after I test drove it (see last photo below). I can't feel the lines with my finger nails. Anything to worry about?
Also, when making turns left or right, I still hear a bit of scraping for a second or two. When I make a continuous circle with the steering almost locked, I don't hear anything.
