Final verdict? Purchasing in 48 hours. IS250 w 84K
Hey All,
I was looking for a used car and ran into this around the corner from my house last week. I spoke to the owner and he offered it to me for $6500.
I took it to a mechanic to look for any problems and the only things wrong are:
1) the 4x4 / transmission has a small leak (they said this isn't a serious issue and doesn't need to be fixed anytime soon but would cost $1500)
2) the front axles need to be replaced before winter or they will get worse and may break when it starts to snow by the end of this year
3) the aux plug is missing (needs to be installed)
4) Back left window doesn't roll down (not having any backseat passengers anyway)
5) It's been in one accident in the past and repaired by where gas tank door is. (by previous owner)
I tried to negotiate but the owner only went down to $6200 because he said I'm already getting a good deal for the vehicle and he's also selling it at a loss, and doesn't want to sell for less than $6k.
With that being said, everything else in the vehicle is clean and it drives smooth. He replaced the headlights with the 2012 version (check pictures).
It only has 84k miles.
I would just like the opinion/advice from some Lexus enthusiasts who may know whether I'm getting a bargain, breaking even, or making a bad deal here.
EDIT: Also, when and what type of problems should i expect to start experience with a car like this approaching 100k miles ?
1. IS 250
2. AWD
3. Exterior : Dark Grey
4. 17in rims
5. no spoiler
6. Interior: Dark Grey
7. From an auction

I don't have any experience with the AWD version but that seems like a lot of problems for only 84k miles. Even though these cars have known issues, build quality is top notch. I'm surprised there is a leak and that the rear window doesn't roll down. Sounds like it might have been in a bigger accident than the owner is letting on... plus, it doesn't have the rear spoiler... the rear spoiler makes the look of the car. I'm amazed that these cars aren't worth crap anymore. I paid $35k when I bought mine. It still gets compliments 10 years later though.

Well the mechanic just told me the 4x4 has a leak and they have to remove the transmission to fix it

I think luxury cars lose value the fastest because there's always something new coming out and they are a bit pricey to repair later on.

Wow for all those issues and an accident I wouldn't even touch it for that price. I'd advise shopping around, plenty of IS250s to be had. Axles are almost $1k in CAD each... All windows should be working... it's not hard to find one that has functioning windows. Transmission shouldn't be leaking - instant skip factor for me. Looks like it has a lip and exhaust maybe? Aux plug should be in the arm rest, I can't imagine it not being there. As an AWD IS250 owner for a couple years now I would have gotten an IS350 instead as well.

You're looking at 3 grand to fix those things.
I would walk away.

Walk away lmao just shell out a bit more and buy a one in better condition.
Those are eBay lights, not the upgraded 2012 ones. The fact that he tried to sell them to you as 2012 is reason enough to avoid it.

I don't understand how leaky transmission isn't a serious issue and doesn't need to be fixed anytime soon...???
