Default Radiator Cap SPRING

2006
IS250
6speed rwd
150000 miles+

Hello, so I took my coolant cap off of the water pump assembly, where it lives.
Noticed right away that it was broken into the 3 pieces standard (cap, spring and plug).
I tried screwing it back on into place, and the spring and plug popped down into the water pump assembly passages. I had taken off the hose going into the radiator so I know that the pieces werent in there! The plug came right out the main hose hole to the rad (Luckily) but I did not see the spring fly out the same side. I cannot find the spring anywhere on the ground or in the engine bay. I am wondering if theres any way it could have gone down into the narrow passage that leads down the back.
I do not want to take off the assembly pump because its defenitely the original and im afraid il snap the bolts in there. But i may have to just for piece of mind.
"If the spring would have stayed in the pump system then it would have been visible still I think or would be pretty loose in there, it could not have gotten logged"

is my best opinion.

Can anyone help, should I just take it off for piece of mind. Bolts are pretty on there??!

thanks!

Are you sure someone before you didn't toss the spring and shove the remaining bits back in place?

I'm not convinced it could go far much less do harm unless it found its way to the suction side of the WP.

Perhaps chase all reachable passages with one of those $20 boroscope to phone cameras or a strong magnet on a flexible handle?

yo if anything the spring will get flown into the rad and just get trapped at the top of it.

AND does the coolant at all go into the water pump before going into the rad? It must go into rad first

And does the rad have a filter sort of at the top of it or bottom? (Before circulating back into the block?

Thanks dude!

The coolant flows through the engine and radiator as follows:

Hot coolant comes out of the engine to the radiator.
Coolant flows through the radiator and gets cooled.
Cooled coolant leaves the radiator and goes to water pump inlet.
Coolant is pumped through the engine to cool it.
and the cycle repeats.

There is no filter used in the cooling system, either in the radiator or the engine.
