My problematic day that ended up being a simple fix.
Sharing my troublesome day in which I thought I had a major issue but was a simple solution. Went in for a job interview ~ 20 miles from my home this morning. Car was vibrating noticeably over 50MPH. I immediately concluded I needed a new tire. Upon reaching home and looking at my tires they seemed fine but best to be safe than sorry right? On my way to the tire shop and my car literally shook so violently only when not on the gas that it was borderline un-driveable. I'm under Warranty but the dealership is almost 50 miles from me. At the tire shop while waiting and doing research I am looking at expensive fixes.. Wheel bearing, struts, suspension, bent rim, etc.
Long story short(er) I decided to recheck my rims (I have the discontinued Vossen CV5 20"). My back left wheel 3 out of 5 lug nuts where so loose I could turn them with my hand and 1 was missing. Also a Wheel stud broke so I only had 4 lugs. The Tire Shop in which I frequent tightened all lugs on my vehicle and it drives normally. Getting another stud put on Saturday...
I had a similar experience when driving through the Rocky mountains in 2011.
We were driving a rented, late model Impala (previous, garbage gen.), when I noticed on straight sections, the car seemed to vibrate when not on the gas or brakes.
I immediately pulled off the highway where it was safe (not a cliff) and checked the lug nuts. Sure enough, several were loose. (car had roughly 5000miles on it).
