Default Motor problems

Driving home today in my 08 is350 with 134k on it. Felt a small vibration, got off the highway check engine and traction light came came on and it felt like it was running on 3 cylinders. Could hear a clanging noise also. Got home and it was barely running. I checked the codes I have random cylinder miss fire #1 and #5 miss fire. Let it sit for a few minutes and it will run fine for a few seconds but then the engine noise is still there and it starts chugging.

Have you pulled the #1 and #5 plugs. Are the coils ok on those two cylinders?

Not yet , I had to start it to pull it up the driveway and it ran fine besides the clanking noise that sounds like something loose in the top end. I revel it to 1500 rpm and it started to drop cylinders.
But my wife just reminded me that when I bought it the dealer gave me. 6 month / 6k mile warranty. I have 5400 since I bought it. Just need to keep my fingers crossed they cover it. Unfortunately they can’t look at it till Monday.
I might be tempted to do a compression test before I tow it over.

You pointing out the noise sounds like it the top end gives us direction. Holes 1 & 5 are on right bank. Use a long screw driver as a listening aid and touch about with the other end to your ear. A wooden dowel can be used too. Compare to the other side. That fuel pump will make a pretty solid thump.

IIRC these had recall for busted valve springs. Do you have record of that being done?
The reason I mention this is they could make noise if broken. It could idle fine but misfire when rev'd.
Glad you have a warranty. Fingers crossed.
Lastly busted springs could tho unlikely seal well enough to have fair compression but fail at higher RPMs. Mind you busted springs lead to dropped valves which can destroy the engine.

Timing gear and springs done back 9/2010.
All recalls completed besides the passenger airbag. I would think if it was a broken spring and the valve dropped that it wouldn’t idle to 1500 rpm

Like I said, that all depends where they break. Some can hold the valves closed at idle. Typically not but it does happen.

Got the call from the dealer I bought the car from ,the motor is bad. No answer on what is bad. I will find out what broke. The next thing he said was I am covered under the warranty. There looking for a motor now. Good news is I don’t have to pay. Bad news I don’t have a choice on the motor going in it.
