Default Tone Ring, Reluctor Ring destroyed

I've been lurking the forum for a while now, but unfortunately now I've had trouble finding a solution to my problem. I'm hoping some of you will be able to point me in the right direction.

Subject car is a 2006 Lexus IS250 AWD.

Recently I've had to replace the rear wheel bearings and in the process, I mangled the dust deflectors. This in turn destroyed the reluctor ring or tone ring as it is also known. The dust deflectors are an easy order part from any Lexus dealership, and should be pretty straight forward on the install. That is not the case for the reluctor ring - you just can't buy them anywhere, Lexus doesn't even sell them. I can't even find a picture of the axle that shows the reluctor ring, let alone an exploded parts diagram. After finding that out, I thought that they must be one piece with the CV axle. So I've attempted to track down a CV axle - which are also extremely hard to find without having them shipped. All I wanted to do was examine one in order to figure out how I will be able to repair the tone ring... I.e. is is secured to the outside of the axle? Are they removable from a reman axle to put onto the existing axle? Or are they secured on to the hub in another fashion? Are they actually part of the bearing and I've destroyed a new bearing??

When I pulled it out to examine, the reluctor ring was stuck onto the CV axle, so I thought it was part of the axle.

Does anyone happen to have a picture of the outer end of the rear CV axles that shows the tone ring? Or does anyone have information related to this tone ring that might be of use to me?

FWIW, I placed a call to a local CV axle shop here in the Denver area, CVJ Axle (the best shop in the world!), and they went to look at an axle they had on the shelf and told me there isn't a tone ring on it and they thought it would be part of the bearing/hub assembly.

Thanks in advance!

I recall a thread in the past of 4mo where a member said they had to spin and pry the ring off while pulling the hub out. It seemed he also damaged his. That said are they mangled and unable to be secured?

Okay, so I dug into this pretty deep today. The reluctor ring is in fact built into the bearing, as opposed to on the axle like on the older Lexus models. So, since mine is damaged I have the pleasure of buying another bearing and re-doing the job. Luckily this only happened on one side.

Thanks for the replies!!

If its on the bearing and you bought a new bearing, how did it get damaged?

Do search and find the thread but in short a new bearing install lead to sensor errors as the ring had a different offset than the oem ring and sensor had errors at low speeds.

If this is your problem there may be fix for it without replacing the bearing again (which could lead to the same problem).

A DIY on an LS.... Notice the work involved on the dust deflector and the fact that one must align this while installing so the abs sensor fits. Not sure if the 250/350 is the same....

The reason the reluctor ring was damaged when the bearing was bolted down, it wasn't perfectly even and caught the lip of the dust deflector which caused it to slightly bend up into the bearing. When driven, after about 50 miles. is when the reluctor ring had been rubbed raw it separated from the bearing. So a new dust deflector and bearing, with careful installation should remedy the situation.

Yep, they're basically exactly the same. That dust deflector can be the death of a lot of stuff if not done properly. It's really not a simple unbolt and bolt in part since you have to be so careful. It's really worth taking off the entire spindle so you are able to line everything up better.
