Click when downshifting 4th to 3rd
hi, I have a 2012 Lexus IS350 AWD with 42,000 miles. I drive the car hard every now and then, like launch it at about 2k rpm. I also bit a curb one time in the rain, and twisted both wheels on the passenger side. The wheels are fixed and everything is ok, aside from possibly my wheel bearing in the rear passenger might be messed up. However, there is a clunk/click when the car comes to a stop with or without pressing the breaks. The click/clunk happens only from 4th to 3rd gear (looking at the gear position screen). And it almost always happens. Took it to the dealership since it is still under powertrain warranty but they keep saying they can’t hear it or feel it since it does a jerk sometimes. The car jerks sometimes when stepping on the breaks to stop the car shifts from 4th to 2nd and causes a noticeable jerk. But that doesn’t happen that often.
Any ideas? The powertrain runs out this year and I’m on the edge of selling the car because of it.

The problem is that it is very hard to get on camera. The lick happens exactly when the car is slowing down and is in 4th gear, it downshifts to 3rd and it clicks as the RPM go to about 800-900. Also, sometimes the car jerks when the car downshifts; when in 4th gear, and decelerating or on the brakes, it jumps to 2nd gear and it jerks with somewhat noticeable jerk. I just understand if it could be an engine mount (or something similar) or something more serious. They won't even check the car, only if they hear it in the test drive. Last time they insisted on me driving. And I can hear it but the tech can NOT hear it. So I don't understand their logic at all.

Since this is a "free" fix, try disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes minimum, then reconnect. Immediately go drive the vehicle how you would want it to perform on a daily basis. If you drive slowly, then drive it that way; if not, beat on it. Report back on if the trans shifting has changed for the better. Give it a few days though.

Good call was going to suggest the same action. You might try to document the noise and action first.
Is the notchy shifting felt. You might point the camera at a water bottle and maybe you can see the water slosh about while the shift occurs.
Last item, when cold, lift the left side and pull the fill plug. Inspect fluid color and smell. If burned and brown you might have more ammunition at the dealership.

I had a very loud click coming from my the drivers side rear. I have an 07 RWD, It would happen when i downshifted as well 4 to 2 or 3 to 2. Also when accelerating hard from a stop it would click. It was my axle nut that needed to be tightened, my mechanic just tightened it more than what was and i haven't had the sound/problems since.
