Default Does changing exhaust tip increase exhaust sound

Hi I need some help to understand what is going on with my lexus IS350 2013 luxury. I bought it from dealer and the exhaust noise is loud which i like, my wife has a different view :-( . i need to reduce the exhaust sound. Its got fairly big exhaust tip. so my question is do i need to only change the tip or the full exhaust

No, it is the muffler themselves that are making the sound the way it is.

Take a picture of your exhaust and post it here.

Chances are the previous owner installed aftermarket exhaust or removed stock mufflers a.k.a "muffler delete".

The previous owner may have deleted the secondary cats and or the resonator. Could also be a universal muffler with a different tip welded on.

What you have these is NOT an OEM muffler. That looks like a "Flowmaster"-type muffler with a SS tip welded on. Also appears they hacked off the OEM axle back too. All I see is a poor aftermarket hack job at a mom and pop exhaust shop.

As the OD gets bigger, the veloicty and heat drops and the sound wavers scatter in all directions making it raspy and loud. Get the tip size down to 2", now the exhaust gases are all pointed the same direction, not scattered bouncing back and forth and not so small that the velocity sounds like a rocket motor.

Do a drive by audio at cruise and under load. Fix it and repeat.

thanks you all for your help,

1) where can i buy a used OEM muffler ? wreckers in Australia who have it in stock ?
2) any of your friends selling ? i am happy to take them of their hands.
3) I was looking at ebay and the postage is more expensive than the actual cost of the muffler

looking forward for your help

1. Did you try a wrecker? You will need to LOOK one up yourself ........
2. No one in the USA is going to post you one.

Either:
a. Just go to Midas exhaust etc etc and get a quieter muffler welded on. (easiest option)
b. Ask here-- http://au.lexusownersclub.com/forums...s-is-f-is300h/
c. shove a sock in it
