Question 72k Maintenance Check Up

Hi Guys,

Wanted you guys' input on some usual maintenance. I have a 2012 IS250 with 72k miles. I've been told by a co-worker mechanic to get some work done a preventive maintenance. I called Lexus to see what they would recommend but they told me the water pump & gaskets are changed at 90k. Transmission Fluid is not needed. What would you guys recommend?

Lexus quoted me for rear differential oil change at $98.85

He suggested the following at 70k:
•Transmisison Fluid
•Rear Differential
•Water Pump
•Thermostat
•Serpentine Belt

What type of transmission you have? A/T or M/T? Is the car RWD or AWD?

I know for RWD A/T there is no service requirement for either the transmission fluid or rear differential fluid, as these fluids are "lifetime" fluids. Now, people do change them just because. I have 180k+ miles on my 08 IS 250 RWD A/T with the original transmission and rear diff fluid. At the end of the day, it's your car; do what you want.

EDIT: not sure if rear diff maintenance is different for a 2012, but it's still second Gen. Check owners manual.

Most of those are closer to 100k service than 70. They just want to sell you. I did the trans and rear diff just over 105k and both were clean but certainly could have been changed. The belt can be inspected for cracks. And the water pump will show signs of failing, but usually not before 90k or 100.
