Default Engine Issues

my IS250 has ran great since I purchased it almost 5 years ago. I was driving it the other day and it suddenly just shut down. I had to have it towed to the dealership. They told me I had to replace the engine because it locked up. Is that common? Shouldn't have have gotten a warning there was an issue. I take my car to the dealership for all oil changes and nothing on my report showed any issues. I am very timely with my routine maintenance. Help.

Could you restart it after it shut down? Did you have any check engine lights? Flooding in your area?

Definitely not common, I would go so far as to say it is quite uncommon.
