Used IS Counseling
Hi, all
i'm thinking of trading my Mini Cooper S 09 for a 2006-2007 Lexus IS. Currently a friend has a dealership and he is selling a 2006 IS 350 with 80K miles on it and a 2007 IS 2007 with 130K miles. Both for the same price. My question is, is it worth it buying these year cars on this year, or is it prone to any issues to surge up due to the age. If so, what should I look out for in these cara and which one would you guys recommend?

Ide go for the one with less miles , depending on carfax and maintenance history. Also options , color preference by you. Are both IS350s?

The 2006 is a 350 and the 2007 is a 250. The first is that red' ish color and the later is charcoal grey. Not really concerned by color, more interested in real world MPG and reliability. Here in PR Carfax is not really that reliable anyhow .

The gas mileage is about +1-2mpg so it's not that big of a deal and you get a significant power increase. The is350 is much more reliable too, no carbon build up and is a blast to drive.

Lastly, how prone is the 250 to the carbon Buildup I hear about? Because at 100+K I can imagine. I really want the 250's mpg but the 350 seems to be more reliable.

which one u'd prefer in terms of practicality and reliability?

The 350 seems to be more reliable. Before I bought mine I was looking for a 08-10. Wanted to stay away from 06-07 as the early years of any generation of vehicle will be more prone to issues, and never considered a 250. My gas mileage is in the low 20s.
