im at 170k on my 06 is250 and the torque converter is bad but i need a whole new tranny... i got it at 140k it was driven pretty hard and i drove it hard myself. probably was a preventable problem with doing a tranny oil change every 100k but idk. it is a common issue for the cars

Not to hijack the thread, but could be considered on topic nonetheless.. Are preventative transmission fluid changes advised for higher mileage vehicles? I'm talking outside the regular 100k interval or whatever it is. The transmission seems a common failure point on the later-life IS. Service history states the tranny has been serviced a few times, but I'm considering another for peace of mind sake.

I have read if your car already shifts hard on a gear or slips a little, it is because some of the clutch has worn out and disintegrated and you now have metallic pieces floating in your fluid. If you change the fluid you will lose these pieces (which you need) and mess up the tranny more.

177K here 06' IS350 Original Owner. No major problems so far... My wife just got an RC350 which really sounds nice... Dont know but I prefer my IS350 as it is more fun to drive. Planning to own this hopefully for another 5 years.

I'm thinking of purchasing a one owner 2007 IS250 with 155k miles. The car appears to be in great shape and owner has all the service records on it. What questions do I need to ask in regards to what parts have been replaced recently(alternator, battery, etc). Also, the asking price is definitely more than what I'm willing to spend (10,499) even though they're accepting best offer. What would be a reasonable offer, if the car is mechanically sound? NADA shows a clean trade in of 6750.00

I'd also agree that if your trans is already having issues, that you're better off running it as-is until it gives up. If you have a perfectly normal functioning trans, as a preventative, it is good to exchange the fluid.

You won't get it for the clean trade price that's for sure, but you should have some wiggle room. I recently bought a high mileage 350 (120k). Complete service records are good. I would check if it has been in a collision, as well as run the VIN to check if recalls have been done.

I would also start a new thread for this

Check the private sale price. An 07 250 with 155k that isn't loaded (ML, Luxury package are missing) for 10.5 is definitely overpriced. KBB only values that car at 7k for a private sale (trade in value is 6k). Making your own thread about it would be better.

just bought an 06 is350 89k miles for 5700, owner didnt want to wait for the dash recall so priced to sell (leather is a little worn, carpet dirty and a small dent on the back passenger door), all other recalls had been done, but when i took it in for the airbag recall, they put the new dash in, now just waiting on the door panels--deals are out there if youre not in a hurry, when i had it at the lexus dealer, they came back with maintenance list and onlly non-cosmetic item, was rear brakes getting close

Changed Waterpump before it went bad
Changed Alternator this died on me

Had torque converter issues went away with solenoid change, which lead to other trans issues and im still on this one now.

My 06 350 with 207k miles has had a hard life. but it still keeps going. i did not replace the engine seal when it should have and it was way overdue for a change and the car ran fine like it would keep going forever. the car really is build well, except for the control arms which they updated in 2007? or 2008. i would buy the car again @ 127k miles back in 2013 all my friends though the car was brand new. In 2013 the alternator went bad, and that was it, replaced battery too in that same year. Im still waiting on my door panel replace and then i will try to get it ready to sell for my next Lexus. I went to a local transmission shop in 2013 and the owner told me his is300 had never changed the transmission fluid and he told me not to change mine. i have changed spark plugs and done multiple "carbon cleanse/flush" treatments. I cant wait to sell it for a 2013 gs350.

Is there anything you would recommend I would do at the 107k miles mark as preventative maintenance (same '06 350)? I bought the car with 83k miles. I haven't done anything major. The "fuel pressure regulator sensor" went out recently here in interior Alaska, which was a disaster and unnecessarily expensive. New battery. Just ordered a PowerStop rotor and pad kit for all 4 wheels. I haven't replaced spark plugs and there is no record if the 60k service was ever done. Thanks for feedback!
