Default Engine noise, rattle/tapping

Ive had a background noise ever since picking up my 2011 IS350 3 months ago.

It is there under light throttle. ie. moving in traffic on and off accel.

Can be heard a bit when cruising at 100kph.

Sound like an injector but Im not sure.

Sadly the Lexus dealer who sold me the car couldn't hear it

If you listen to vid please turn up sound. Phone dropped the volume.

https://youtu.be/Pzdwk2kYs00

Any other ideas?

Anyone else have this same sound/found a fix? It seems harmless but I wouldn't mind fixing it either

All this sound is are the intake valves slamming shut. our engines are DI and PI so theres around 1800psi of fuel slamming the valves shut. Its a totally normal noise, just learn to ignore it.

High pressure fuel pump. Happens on the GS and LS also. Some cars sound worse than others. The LS and GS have sound insulators on these fuel pumps. Not sure about the IS.

Without even seeing the tach, the sound is 1/2 the engine speed. Its camshaft speed = HP fuel pump. They do that. Try putting better oil in it and see what happens???

What are your OCIs and what brand does it get?

City miles or highway? Guessing city... Lastly there is an OEM cover to reduce the thumper sound.

Thanks for the reply. Always appreciate your insight. OCIs are good at 5-6k full Synth. I've tried Mobil 1 Extended Perf, Valvoline and Castrol Edge. The Valvoline helped a little( might be placebo). Half city/half highway. Yes to OEM cover.

I know your Lexus is in tip top shape. Does yours sound like this when cold?

On a mobile device or I'd search for it but there is 2 part clam shell that covers the HPFP. Some say it helps others couldn't tell the difference. Its a Toyota part not aftermarket.
Mine thumps and some cold starts are loud for a while. Typically the injector tick is more noticeable.

I find the whine more distressing. Still not clear what makes it do that. Engine or trans?
And thanks BTW.

These cars sure do make a lot of noise. I’ll catch myself turning the radio down at a stop to hear if it’s anything bad. Lol.
But it’s all worth it !
