Default AFS headlight question

Has anyone installed AFS headlights on a car that did not originally come with AFS? Is that even possible? Because unless the car can automatically detect the new lights, I don't see how the AFS on/off option will appear on the dash.

AFS was only used on 2006-2010 cars with factory HID's. In order to add it to a car that didn't come with AFS, you would need:

2006-2010 Factory HID Headlights
Suspension Leveling Sensors Front/Rear (different between 06-08 and 09+)
AFS Computer/ECU

Level sensor connectors, ECU connector, as well as various wire terminals/pins.

You would need to add the wiring for the components as it is not there on vehicles without AFS, this would be a bit of an undertaking.

(If you have a 2011+ car with factory HID's, it would be a bit less work, but you'd still need the 06-10 headlights, the ECU, and to do some custom wiring).

Thanks for such a detailed response! I have a 2012 and after my post I came across the model year spec sheet from the Lexus website which, to my disappointment, said none of the cars have AFS. I guess they took away AFS and instead put in the daytime running LED lights.

Does anyone make aftermarket headlights that have both AFS and DRL? The again, sounds like for my model year it wouldn't be worthwhile because I would have to get all the sensors, ECU and wiring.

I must be the only one who hates AFS.

Yes, they took away AFS to make room for that Nike stripe LED. I actually like AFS better than the LED stripe. I don't even think the 3IS has AFS. Each year Lexus keeps deleting features.
