Default Sticky feel to steering when on freeway.

So I got my 09 IS350 back in February, I didn't notice at first but after a few days of driving I felt a stickiness to the steering feedback when on the freeway. When I am driving pretty straight for a prolonged period, It feels like the wheel doesn't want to turn either way out of the sticky spot.
Has anyone ever had this issue before? I am guessing that maybe the Rack and pinion has a dry spot and maybe needs lubed Or maybe a tie rod issue but that seems less likely to me.
I do not have the Steering Damper installed yet as I wanted to figure this out first.

This here is my baby. Yes I realize it needs dropped badly, just saving up for bags.

Did you purchase the car with those wheels/tires on it?

Nope. I had them sitting around. Why?

Just wanted to eliminate the possibility that those wheels/tires were the issue. You had this issue BEFORE having these wheels thrown on, correct?

Yeah I had it with both the original OEM wheels and with the new ones.
It doesn't happen driving around town or if I am using a lot of steering input only when making small corrections like on a freeway trip.

So ONLY on the SAME highway, I'm guessing you take quite often? Perhaps it's the road? If you hit the same MPH on different streets do you experience the feeling?

Yeah, I have this issue too. only on the highway, when driving relatively straight for a prolonged amount of time. I have stock '12 IS250 F-sport on stock wheels with stock tires, no suspension mods.

I have decided that the problem is with the electric power steering. I believe one or all of the motors is going out and lags or is slow to turn on when making minuet movements. Looks like a new Power Steering rack is around $600 for a rebuilt one so I have just dealt with it for now.

Put your damper on and see if it helps. These cars have a strange feel at straight ahead imo. Damper helped for me.

Hey i know this is a long shot but I am experiencing the same issue and was wondering if you ever replaced the rack and did it eliminate the problem?

The steering rack is not the issue. I had the same exact problem with my 2010 IS350 Sport. On long trips it would get this dead spot when making corrections or even on slight curves. Like the PS cut off for a second. After doing some research I realized others were also experiencing this. My belief is that this is overzealous traction control, or the damn nannies as we like to call it. The way I fixed it was switching out the stock EPS ecu with an EPS ecu from an ISF. Read through this thread, it's long but informing: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...ering-ecu.html

And this one as well: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...t-install.html

hey Thanks for your quick response. It does seem like the exact problem I am having so I'll just go ahead and do this on my car and see what happens. If you happen to have any website where I can buy one that would be extremely helpful.

I would look for a used one either on this forum or on Ebay. Buy one for a 2011 ISF, the part number is 89650-53041. A used one will already be calibrated and will just be a plug & play install. If you can't find a used one, check out some Lexus dealerships. I bought my second one from Bell Lexus when they had a sale, and a friend on this forum who had the TechStream software calibrated it for me. The Lexus dealership will calibrate it for you, but they might want to charge you a lot

I second the above - the OEM implementation of EPS sucks. It took them a few years to make it right. Replace the EPS unit with a late model F-Sport or ISF ECU.

In short the input force to correct the minor drift off course exceeds torque at the input sensor and it overcorrects. As the driver, one tires of these minor constant corrections.

Its Stiction. It sticks too long forcing constant corrections.

@2013FSport has both the F-Sport and ISF EPS ECU and has reviewed both of them. Maybe he will sell you one of them (both fully calibrated) out of the goodness of his heart
