Just installed mine. If indeed the air flow is downward, which makes sense, then the installation video on Wix's website is incorrect. Wix states the airflow is up, and the filter should be installed with the arrow pointing up. I think we all agree this is incorrect.

I think Wix has incorrectly assumed that the stock filters arrow is indicating airflow ... which it does not. It simply indicates filter orientation.

So to summarize - stock air filter should be arrow up, because arrow indicates filter orientation. Wix air filter, arrow down ... indicating air flow direction.

Clear as mud.

Same thing applies to FRAM Air filters. They indicate the airflow and it should point down!

To confuse things more, put your hand in the air filter cavity with the filter out and recirculate on. Don't reach down, there is a fan down there. The airflow goes up, air is going from bottom to top. With the engine off, you can reach down and feel the fan below the filter cavity. The fan is blowing air up. The filter is also in place to prevent debris from falling (gravity overtakes things when the engine is off) into the fan. When the air flow stops, debris will no doubt rest on top of the filter, which is why you see debris on an old filter. But no question, you should be able to physically feel air flow going up, leaving little doubt to the direction of air flow.

On my new 2019 Fram filter, the other words and numbers on the side of the filter are upside down when properly installed, but the arrow is pointing up in the direction of air flow while the words, "air flow" accompanying the arrow are upside down. Clear as mud.
