Hey guys I want to ask if someone can help me.I went to my mechanic the other day and he touched the water pump pulley and told me that it needs to be replaced.I don't have any leaks or noises from it.He advised me not to travel far with my car until I change the pump.I know the pumps in our car have a problem but I ve never heard that someone replaced it without having a leak.The mechanic is from Lexus .What do you say?Any advice?

 

I'd only know if the WP would need replacing if it was :

1) leaking
2) making a grinding or squealing noise.

Do you have any odd noises coming from the engine bay right now?

 

Dunno how the mechanic can just touch the pully and diagnose that it needs replacing. If the bearing is bad, it would squeak. No squeak or leaks = B.S.

 

I guess it depends how much you trust him ha

 

My mechanic told me a few weeks ago that my water pump needs to be replaced also. 2007 IS250 with 73K miles on it. I'm not loosing coolant. I keep checking it every few days since then and I'm not loosing any coolant or any overheating. I'm going on 500 miles round trip this weekend and hope I don't run into any issue.

 

If it doesn't leak or making grinding noises, you're OK.

 

Thank you guys for the replys.The car makes a sound after i replaced my flywheel thats the reason i went back to the mechanic.He touched the pumps pulley and told me that its a little loose .The noise i hear its only when i start the car in 1st gear or 2st gear with very very low miles.Its like metal to metal noise and when i accelarate a little it stops.The car is running great with the supercharger .I dont know what to do.

 

Do this, remove the accessory belt. Start the car for no more than 30 seconds. If the noise goes away, it's the WP. The metal on metal is the internal bearing of the WP eating itself up.
