Newer navigation discs do not change functionality of the navigation system, with the one exception of removing the need to press the "I agree button" when the car is started, as required by the older versions of the software.
The point-of-interest database has grown too large to fit on one disc, hence the latest update is supplied in two different versions. Both east and west versions have the complete map including street names, but point-of-interest data for only half the country.
Dont waste your money. For the few places your NAV doesnt show you use an app on your phone like Waze.
I use Waze even in places where my nav does show. You can't beat Waze's real time traffic routing, notification of police and red light cameras, and other modern features that the built-in system lacks.
I have a 2006 IS and I never upgraded the navigation disc because I don't think is worth the price. I just use my phone if you don't like using your phone just get a Garmin with lifetime maps updates.

DVDs are like 30-40 bucks on eBay. Why would a buy a cheap garmin.
I'm just wanting to override without wire hacking my unit
Hey guys how's it going? 2006is with 07 or 08 ml unit
Looking to buy a map dvd and do the install.
Does the gen five do anything special like allow you to do a nav overide. So you can drive and browse through music folder and change gps address.
If not let me know something or somewhere that would have it.
Plus some DVDs say east and west does that mean they are only for east NA or just more detail in the east?
Cheers
Nope not gonna happen on the older IS. They made the system so the driver would not be hindered, inputting an address, while eyes are on the roadway. Does it make sense, technically yes BUT drivers might be eating, drinking, changing temp and or music, putting on make up, while eyes are not focused on the road. I believe the newer IS have this ability to accomplish.
It's not a difficult task to open the console and wire up a toggle switch.
