Since it's Holly weekend, I haven't had a chance to take my car to see what code it does throw out there.

My car suddenly does not shift 3rd gear. Check light was on but I removed the negative cable from the battery to reset. Check light is gone, tested the car and it worked fine but issue persisted again.

ANY ideas what this issue can be? Am so worried. ..

 

I believe on our cars, when the CEL is triggered it can go into "limp mode" or "O/D lockout" for safety reasons. Does it not go above 3rd? How about 1st and 2nd? Don't start worrying just yet, pull the code first.

 

Have you tired putting it into "S" mode and up-shifting to higher gears?

 

I had that problem too, I forgot which codes but I had 3 (all related to the transmission). Ended up rebuilding the transmission for $2200..

 

Yesterday I tested and the car ran fine, taking in consideration that the check engine light remains on. I didn't not test it using "S" yesterday. But the day the issue started I did use the "S" mode and the car did not go higher than 3rd but you can see in the dash that numbers/shift move.

I still haven't had a chance to get any code sine shops are closed due to Holly weekend.

Is the CEL expensive and is there a way that the car can be removed from locked or limp mode when they connect it to the scanner?

 

Your shifting solenoid is malfunction and need to replace (but 50/50 it fixed your problem).
I had been through it and know how you feel.

 

Had a friend comen over and was able to scan. Code that showed up wad P2714. Is this an easy fix? What part needs to be purchased? The shop is 10 miles from home can I drive it to the shop?

Look like you need new transmissions. Get used or rebuild.
