roof drip molding install
My drip molding is getting really faded and I ordered the parts to replace it. I can't find any DYI threads which give any details of the install. For anyone how has done this can you help out. How do you take off the old molding. I am assuming it just pops off but I don't want to take a screwdriver to it without knowing first. Thanks

There are 2 metal clips on each moulding, one at each end. There is also some rubber between the clips that provides a bit of a friction fit. Pull up on the end and it should come out. Check out the clips and make sure that they're not broken before installing the new moulding. If they are broken, replace them (they get epoxied in place, ideally using 3M Scotch-Weld DP-105, if you have trouble finding it, check out Fastenal).

Thanks for the heads up. Sounds like I just need to pull up on the end of the molding with a screwdriver or something and they should pop off. I ordered new clips as well just in case so I should be good. Will let you know how it goes once I get around to do it.

Good thing to replace everything while you're there.
I had mine replaced at Lexus this fall (lost the driver side moulding on the road - the front metal clip was gone) and I remember the mechanic telling me that this was a common issue with 2IS and that it was probably why they removed it on the 3rd gen of IS.
OEM part being approx. 200$, this is something you don't want to happen so make sure it's glued with some good epoxy!

Just completed this. Super easy and took me about 30 seconds as I didn't have to replace the clips. The drip molding is very flexible which helped out. I started at the rear and gently pried the back of the molding up with a screw driver. The molding is just pressed into the clip so if you gently apply upward pressure to the molding it will pop out. Just avoid touching the clip with the screwdriver and it will hopefully be undamaged. Once the back was out I just slowly pulled up on the molding by hand and it popped out of the front clip. Just be slow and gentle and hopefully the clips will be undamaged. The new one just pops into place and you are done.

Have since encountered this issue as well. Thought perhaps all roof drip molding (part 75556-53040-C1 / Left - Driver Black & 75555-53050-C1 / Right - Passenger Black), were all default Black. However, after visually looking at existing roof drip molding, it appears molding is painted to match color / year of vehicle (TUNGSTEN PEARL, MATADOR RED MICA, DESERT SAGE METALLIC, STARFIRE PEARL, SMOKY GRANITE MICA, OBSIDIAN, BREAKWATER BLUE METALLIC etc.).
