Default The volume of the engine oil?

Hi Guys,
I DIY changed the engine oil yesterday. This is my second time to do that DIY. But why the capacity of the drained out wasted engine oil is only 4-4.5 L quarts for every time. I then filled 6 L new oil. Is that good for the changing or too much? My engine oil ruler is usually fuzzy.

Thanks for the help!
Merry Christmas!

Hey, it sounds like your burning some oil or have a leak. I change mine with new filter and Mobil 1 refill 6.3-6.5 quarts, I would recheck your oil level in about 1K miles and see if it has dropped any.

I agree, it sounds like your oil was low before the change. It's not uncommon for a 10 year old car to consume some oil between changes. You probably should get in the habit of checking the oil level on the dipstick on a regular basis.

It's hard to get all the old oil out but that's the best thing you can do for the engine. Since the drain plug is on the side of the pan, I jack the other side of the car higher to drain more oil out. Don't overfill the oil, that's not good for the engine either. Better to be a quart low than any overfill.

When the vehicle is stone cold, check the oil level. With 6qts it should overfilled slightly. I only ever add 5.5 qts during an oil AND oil filter change.

If you check the oil level after having just having driven the car, oil will be "trapped" in the oil passages of the motor and will take time to find its way into the oil pan...giving you a semi-false reading.
