My wife's car tossed a code a couple of weeks ago - P0017 0 which seems to be the Cam Positioning Sensor Bank 1. She gets the check VSC + Check engine and traction is disabled because of this.
Checked the gas cap, pulled the battery and let things clear,.... the codes returned. Car runs and drives 100% normal. No issues on startup, idle, or when under throttle.
So I figured I would try and clean the sensor/connections and see if that could be an issue (the car has 115k on it now) .... I just can't seem to find a diagram on the locations of these sensors for the 2GR-FSE engine.... any help on their location or if this is an issue any of you have faced, and if so, what was the fix?
Closest Lexus deal is like 120 miles away, and since nothing seems to be wrong, I assume its just a dirty or dud sensor which I'm sure I can fix assuming they're reasonably accessible.
I don't have any experience with the 350 motor, but found this info for that code from the TIS manual:
P0017
Detection Condition - Deviation in crankshaft position sensor signal and VVT sensor 1 (for intake camshaft (bank1)) signal (2 trip detection logic)
btw bank one is the passenger side bank of the motor
Trouble area - Mechanical system (Timing chain has jumped tooth or chain is stretched) ECM.
I have the 250 and the intake sensor is on top of the valve covers toward the front of the motor. I recently had the P0348 error code for the bank 2 sensor high input and was fortunate it was only a broken wire at the connection. Here is a picture of the connector.
The sensor on bank 2 is really close to the oil fil cap. If you can locate this, you should be able to locate the one on bank 1.
Did you recently have the alternator or something replaced in that engine bay? When a local to me replaced his alternator, he accidentally pulled the wires out of the back of the cam position sensor connector. Two small wires that if you're not being careful with the wiring harness, can be pulled out quite easily. There are four total, two for each bank :
