Default Need help identifying part on engine block

Sorry for the noob question but I have looked online and parts diagram with no luck. Does anyone know what these round plugs/caps are? Is it possible for them to leak oil?

That looks like a freeze plug. Usually they will only leak coolant. I believe they were originally designed to spare the block from cracking in case of a hard freeze and no antifreeze. The expanding ice would push them out of the block. They as re usually made from steel and can deteriorate in time. Is this a 2.5 or 3.5?

Btw, it looks like your oil is probably leaking from above, maybe valve cover gaskets.

Thanks! No coolant leaking. This is a 3.5L. I'm slowing taking everything out to reseal my timing cover and was worried when I saw those plugs covered in oil..

I agree. I have new gaskets for both covers so that should take care of that.
