Default 2006 IS250 - touchscreen failure

My touchscreen failed after having some work done at the dealer. The dealer is not taking any responsibility for the problem as they say it is "unrelated" to the work performed. I've been looking at posts and it seems that the touchscreen issue is the more prevalent but my dealer says something shorted in the nav unit. The repair cost is $2999.00. How do I determine if it is a nav short or a touchscreen issue (where the touchscreen electrical trace breaks - open circuit)? This is what I experience -

- I'm stuck in the language selection screen. Nothing works (as with most of the posts). However,
- I am able to get to the info screen and touch an icon which in turn directs me to the language screen.

??? If the touchscreen failed, I would expect the info page to also be unresponsive. ???

I'm also assuming the dealer did the battery disconnect/nav reset to see if that would resolve the issue. It really seems like the touchscreen. I read posts on "how to access the service menu" and will try that shortly, but was wondering if anybody had insight or suggestions on additional tests I can perform to pinpoint the issue? Thank you in advance.

If you don't go the DIY fix route or can't fix it yourself save your money and have it repaired by the guy on eBay. There is one person who specializes in repairing Lexus navigation issues. It's a couple hundred dollars and if more parts are required he will let you know before installing them. Overall many people on this sight have been really pleased with his work and turnaround time. DO NOT have the dealership charge you multiple thousands to throw expensive parts at the problem when you can have your current one repaired for a fraction of the price. One post a couple of days ago a dealership wanted $7,000 to replace the whole entertainment system! Im sure that person could have his unit fixed for under $450-$500.
