Default Trunk Button Clean up

So I replaced my trunk button and followed these directions and it went great. I wanted to try to clean up the old button and it was very messy. I used a plastic fork to scrape away the majority of the melted button gasket. I found Goo Gone helped “dissolve” and clean up the rest. The button gained back some of the “bouncyness” but still don’t fell like the new one. There is probably still gasket goop inside the button and I would have to take apart the button to get to it.

I cleaned mine off with brake clean and a razor blade back in April. Haven’t had a problem since. It’s a little stiff in the cold weather but no big deal, just push a little harder. Considering you can’t see it why bother.

Has anybody tried removing the button, spraying it with a coating of Flex Seal rubber spray, and reinstalling? My button works fine but just like everybody else's is melted and sticky (Florida)...
