You'd have to be hit a lot harder than that before the airbags will deploy from my experience, it would also likely need to be further back towards the b-pillar. I would have been happy the bag didn't deploy in an accident like that, it wouldn't have likely done anything to help and would have taken more to repair.

Deployed side airbags would have also likely totalled the car. Whether or not that's good or bad depends but usually deployed side bags = write off.

Default IS 250 2015 bag did not deploy.

I thought if you are in a head on collision that airbags deploy? Am I wrong? Hit a deer. No deployed airbags.

Side view

Depends how hard it was hit really, Lexus designed them so they wouldn't go off unless it was absolutely necessary. I'd rather not get smacked by the airbag if it wasn't necessary, would save on repair costs as well. That 3IS doesn't look too bad, obv would need to check for frame damage, but maybe new fenders, new bumper, hood and headlights, and possibly radiator and it'll be fine. Repairs shouldn't be enough to total it.

^^In the pic of the 2015 model IS, that damage was considered "too high" to trigger the airbags. The sensors are lower in the front end, and the damage missed them altogether.
