Default 08' IS250 using oil?

Bought the car with 56k last October. 2 times since we bought the car the low oil level light has come on. A few months after we bought it and just yesterday. The first time I assumed the dealer might not have topped it off so I just got an oil change. I checked the stick when I got it home and it was to the top of the line.Fast forward 5 months. Now yesterday my wife (she DD's it) told me it came on again. I had a change done again a few months ago using Mobil 1 and also checked the stick when I got home and it was topped off. This last oil change probably has 4k on it. No there are no leaks on my garage floor.

I have an extended warranty but I have heard horror stories about taking it to the dealer.

What would you guys suggest? Thank you..

Cars can burn lots of oil and varies with car to car even if they are the same model. Mobil one is notorious with burning easily. Many cars will consume enough to set off the light within 4k. I have used amsoil and I never noticed any dip in my oils between 5k-6k oil changes.

First - start checking it a few times a month
Second - switch of the m1 crap to a castrol or any other syn. Avoid M1 and royal purple
Third - log when the drop takes place. It will most likely be steady (bad rings, PVC problem etc) or drop off quickly after x miles (suggesting a thinning and burning)

However 1.6 qt in 4k isn't bad. Which is what I believe the car is low on when the low light comes on. No one will fix that low an oil consumption rate.

If all else fails you can try a 0-30 to see if thicker oil doesn't burn/consume as quickly. Last restore mind you.

Yeah, I know Mobil1 isn't the best. What weight Amsoil are you using?

Also I was told to use the Toyota oil filter only. Is that true? Thanks guys..

I use 5w-20 signature series. Amsoil is worth it. You can order online and sign up for preferred customer discount which costs $10 for 6 months to buy wholesale pricing.
