apparently they did because they were aware of the defect at least that was the answer I got in the dealer after they change free of charge my dash and all 4 door panels.

NYKnick101 07-02-14 09:45 AM

I was hoping something like this was started. I was just about to replace my whole upper dashboard cuz i hate the look of it

YxUxMADDDD 07-02-14 06:42 PM

Sticky dash

Mines getting sticky like my bmw. So you're telling me that I can go in and inquire about the "faulty" dash and they'll replace it for free? Is there a recall out yet?

teaguedp90 07-04-14 03:14 AM

there was a TSB issued by lexus in december of 2011 but it only applied to 06-08 models under lexus comprehensive warranty (4-5 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first.) i know you there is also nhtsa.dot.gov where you can file a complaint. make sure you state that the shiny/sticky dash causes a safety issue with glare on the windshield while driving and a degraded dash can result in possible degradation to the passenger front air bag. or something along those lines.

Whew same here! Mines a 2013!

For those with 06' - 08' hopefully they will replace it for free. From the articles I've read, its really a safety hazard and it could be very dangerous because the cracks from the dash could potentially set off the airbags prematurely. I wouldn't want the air bags to knock me out while I'm driving in the middle of the freeway.

Kumar350 07-06-14 06:10 PM

Just filed mine lets see what happens....

Re3iRtH 07-06-14 07:49 PM

Seems like everyone that's having this issue, I look at their location and all are from
Florida! :p

LongSword 07-06-14 08:36 PM

Interesting. For those who have had it changed, what do they change it to? Same style, just different material? and if so, what type of material?

Airbags are set off by impact sensors.. not cracks in the dash. :)

I guess I misread the article, it was referring to the passenger side that could potential go off early or late.

http://www.wptv.com/money/consumer/t...ay-for-repairs

"Because this dashboard has the airbag inside on the passenger side I wouldn't feel safe in a car that had a cracked dash," explained Stewart. "Anything that would make an airbag go off too soon or go off too late would be very serious."

YxUxMADDDD 07-07-14 01:14 PM

Dropped it off to the dealer and inquired about replacement. Also brought up the recall regarding this back in 2011. She said she will speak with the manager and give me a call back. The glare is extremely noticeable. Put in my complaint as well through link provided on previous post. This was done at Park Place in Plano, TX.

If you don't know if you have it, then you don't have it.

FSportIS 07-24-14 10:54 AM

Wow really, this is getting into the TV news on NBC??? Where can i watch that clip of this being featured on there? Any youtube link?

A_Grasso 07-24-14 11:20 AM

I'm located in So Cal and have this problem as well.. I can't even leave a parking permit on my dash without it getting stuck... I'd imagine Lexus Corp would want to avoid a lawsuit and just issue a recall. Let's remain hopeful!

This is the local South Florida NBC station. They seem to be putting a story together to air.

I have the same issue. I live in SoCal

iRock 07-24-14 05:35 PM

Interesting. Good luck!

JBLUR 07-24-14 06:11 PM

I'm in Miami and I have just started the process of seeing what can be done before i saw this post. I was told I needed to make a service appointment and my dash would be evaluated by a technician and then they can file a claim for me and then see what happens from that. I mean when the sun hits the dash during the day it creates a glare on the windshield that makes it hard to see. This is a big safety issue to me.

SoCal as well and feel your pain. When I bought the car (used in March of this year) I wanted to clean the dash as it looked fuzzy. A quick drag of my cleaning cloth across it quickly taught me that this was not going to work and now it is worse off. Also if you hit it with your fingernail reaching for something or even the door panel tops, you will get a nice divot into the dash and a sticky, black mess under your nails. My Lexus sunshade even gouges it when putting it in and out.

Mine isn't quite that bad. Yet. Mine stays inside at home and I use a sunshade when I'm out. Looking at yours there just makes me cringe thinking of how sticky it must be and all teh dirt it collects. That would be a disaster here in SoCal with al the dust/dirt we've got in the air most days...

GiantsFan 07-25-14 01:43 AM

interesting ... never seen an IS with this issue. Then again I'm in SF lol

Same here northeast state . I guess we don't get hot enough but I always use the sunshade in the summer to help preventing melting or cracking.

2013 FTW! But yeah, I would be pissed if my airbags knocked me out while I'm driving:cry:

teefar 07-25-14 12:39 PM

I test drove at least 2 Lexi with melted dash and door panels back when I was looking for my IS a few years ago. Surprised it took this long.

is250gurl 07-25-14 01:42 PM

I'm in FL and have the same issue with the front door panels. They are sticky and scratch really easily and now the passenger side is even cracking. My dash use to have the same issue until my car was taken apart for something else by the dealership and they broke it and replaced it. I have never used anything but water on the panels. I plan to bring this up to the dealership when I go in for an oil change soon. I do have the Platinum Warranty still also.

carlos 07-26-14 11:09 AM

Filed a claim. Hopefully it gets sorted out.

I had a Lexus manufacture brand extended warranty and they wouldn't cover the dash or door panels under it. Good luck...maybe their attitude will change after the lawsuits and media attention.

texas02118 07-27-14 09:55 AM

I live in Houston and I experienced the same problem with the dash as early as 2011. When I went to get a recall done I asked the dealer to do the yearly inspection on my car. After they replaced the inspection sticker, I noticed debris on my dash and asked them to remove it but they couldn't lol. . Manager said replace the dash free of charge. Today, all my door panels are experiencing the sticky issue and easy marring and I hate it. I talked to corporate and all they agreed to do (out of good will) is provide a 25% discount to replace the panels. As others already know, each panel is worth 1,100 dollars plus labor. That's not a deal at all when they are aware that this is not normal wear and tear!

I have filed my complaint as well and I am hoping that something is done about this. If anybody else in Houston is experiencing the same thing we should get together and take it to the media (maybe take it to Akin?) lol. If interested, let me know.

TimboIS 07-27-14 10:14 AM

Certainly guaranteed that anyone suffering from this has put some sort of goop, protectant, cleaning solution on their dash. I regularly park outdoors in >40C temps, and never had any issues with this so-called dash melting issue.

I think the issue is using cheap/harsh chemical protectants/cleaning solutions. I use high quality products without harsh chemicals and my dash is fine despite being in 100 degree + temperatures regularly.

I totally agree. It's odd, but only my dash is "sticky" while the door panels are fine. Guess the previous owner used something on it like ArmorAll on it, and now I've got problem.
