Is the IS350 quiet and rattle free?
I am thinking about upgrading from a 3ES to a 2IS in the near future. Is the IS350 a quiet and rattle free car generally? My ES300 has been phenomenal in this respect and I would really miss it if the IS350 was not quiet and prone to rattles, which would drive me crazy. I recently took a ride in a friends 3G TL and it was an absolute rattle trap. What is the consensus on the 2IS? Any things that I should be worried about compared to an ES as far as quietness is concerned. I would be leaving the car completely stock. Is the stock stereo system decent? I've heard that finding one with the ML system is difficult. Thanks!

as far as unwanted noises in the cabin goes, there are rattles but I think it mainly depends on your climate. I noticed my dash rattled more in the winter when things generally contract. I took it in a couple times but the foam they added around the console components did little to alleviate the rattle. I did not want them to pull the dash though. Finally fixed it myself by putting a piece of black eraser cut into a wedge shape between the dash and the windshield right in the bottom middle of the dash where it meets the glass.
My sunroof also rattles but only when I have it on tilt mode and I go over some bumps in the road.
I've read of others having some noise issues around the rear brake light in the cabin, around the gauge cluster, and their drivers seat squeaking (I had the squeaky seat too but there was a tsib for it).

My IS350 never rattles. I think I may be one of the few exceptions. I have had a loaner IS from the dealer that seemed like everything rattled. Btw you will have more noise than a 3ES due to sport tires.

I don't hear any rattle/squeak noises for the most part but once in a while I might hear a little rattle or something when hitting a speed bump in certain angles/speed. Actually thinking back, I can't really remember hearing anything. :P

I have a 2IS and I don't think it rattles at all other than the sunroof sometimes when its open. Just keep in mind that the 2IS is more sport oriented so the suspension is going to be firmer than the ES. It is much firmer than my accord was on coilovers IMO. I would test drive one and make sure its something you can deal with. Other than sunroof thats all I know. I know there are a few other issues that people complain about like dash or rear window but it varies

2009 2IS here.. day and night difference b/w your es300 and an IS350 in terms of chassis rigidity(stiffness) and engine/trans performance. the IS has vault-like solidity. No rattles no squeaks w/ 58.5k. get one and youll love it. I previously drove a 2000 Toyota Avalon, pretty much the same as your es300.

Mine rattled but I had a crazy sound system and was slammed so it hit kinda hard. Here's some reading for you.

Mine had the dash rattle, I took some weatherstripping foam stuff and pushed it in between the windshield and the dash. Much better now and can't see it.
My doors sometimes vibrate from my music... but I also have really loud music and 2 JL subs. Haven't had time to take the panel off and see what exactly is vibrating.
So yes, some people do have rattles, but they're not overly hard to fix yourself.
