because someone recommends something doesnt necessarily mean its the right thing to do. BUT in this instance, after i put the octane booster in, the car ran so smooth i was absolutely shocked how a few octane can make such a difference. i will 100% be using 93 from now on.

Who recommends changing oil every 3,000 miles other than the oil-changing shops? The recommendation from the manual is 5,000 miles. Will it hurt if you change the oil every 5,500 miles? I'm 100% sure it won't. But the gas and oil are for different purposes that I assume Lexus has different tolerances for them being out of recommended range before having negative effect on the car. Like others have already said, it's been argue to death, but the conclusion (I got) is that most likely you can run regular without damage but lower performance and smoothness.

I run on E-30 to E-50 blends of ethanol. If only E85 is available at the pump I blend it with 91 in my tank. The higher level ethanol blends are cheaper & higher octane. Pure ethanol is 113 octane; so E-30 to E-50 will run around 94 oc
The IS has a compression ratio of 12 to 1, very high, so it takes advantage of the higher octane.
