Thumbs down pulled over for speed contest.

So yesterday I was driving home then on a stoplight I decided to race a 335i on my is350. Long story short I got pulled over and he got away. He arrested me and after a few minutes of begging he let me go. On my ticket it says Speed Contest vc23109(c) this happend in CA. Has anyone gotten this before and what did you do to lower the penalties, and how much did you pay for your lawyer?

it says "where the vehicle does not exceed the speed limits, is not a speed contest."

Shouldn't be racing on the streets in the first place, it's not safe.

That being said, retaining a lawyer would be around $1.5-$2k for such matters, maybe more.

Good luck with everything.

Yep, lawyer up! Since they didn't post what speed you were going on the ticket, I assume that will be your way out. Because like it was previously posted : "where the vehicle does not exceed the speed limits, is not a speed contest."

Let this be a lesson to you...save it for the track!

In some cases in CA, I've heard of the car being impounded if found guilty and crushed. I would def get a lawyer. About 15yrs ago I got the same ticket in Baltimore. In court my lawyer grilled the cop, made him look like a fool for assuming "these two gentlemen that were speeding, were drag racing" accused the cop of profiling kids. I got off with PBJ for 24 months. One other time I was in my swapped 240sx and these guys in a camaro z28 (didnt know them) pulled up. we got it straight outta the light, cop pulled out, nailed me, and the other guy rolled out. When the cop came up to my window,I told him i was trying to chase him down, because they busted a beer bottle on my car back at the light. The cop said "stay here I'll be right back" and took off after the camaro that was long gone. After about 5 minutes, I spun around and went home, never heard from that again.

Irrelevant. A contest is a contest, regardless of speed.

Wrong section. You're reading section a, cop charged him with section c. Besides, section a applies to 20 miles, no such thing here.

I'd show up in court without attorney. you'll have a chance to talk to prosecutor, who might make you a settlement offer. If you can't live with the offer, tell them you'll need time to hire an attorney, and do so. Good luck.

^^ I agree with him. I got ticket in NJ and cop never showed up. Prosecutor was nice enough and he reduced my speed from 85 to 65 in 55 zone. i still paid the fine but it was much less than the original. Don't waste money on attorneys.

I'd hire someone to fight the ticket. http://www.ticketkick.com/?kcid=1734...5-00004649fc0e

Exactly why I got a 250 and learned to let the other car go. In Tennessee, drag racing is jail time.

Good luck. Dress nice when you go to court and be respectful of the Judge.
