I had a top level engine rebuild 3 years ago to rectify the occasional rattle noise on startup on my IS250. Noise had disppeared but now i think its back. I've heard it twice so far. It's not low on engine oil or anything as I've recently done an oil change.

Has anyone had this rattle fixed and then have it return again? Has anyone left this rattle alone and is it problematic? It does not sound as metallic as before but still concerning and its very occasional and not necessarily on cold start as i've heard it once on warm startup too.

 

I have had the same issue. For the last 2 oil changes, I've used Castrol Synthetic 5w-20 on my 2006 IS250 and it's gone. I've used Mobil 1 before, but the noise comes back when the oil gets old.

 

that sound could be what this whole recall has been mentioned about in previous threads. i dont think it has anything to do with what type of oil you are using

 

My car has no issues with Mobil 1 /knock on wood

 

That's interesting. I just recently purchased my 2012 IS 250 and as the weather is getting cooler I am noticing for about the first minute or two when the engine is cold I'm getting that same type of rattle.. I've been thinking when I take it in for my first oil change I'd like them to check it out. Could be normal but just to be safe.

Out of curiosity, what year is your IS?

 

My IS350 does that too... occasionally...

 

its the cam gear rattle that you're having, there's a TSB for IS250

 

im pretty sure this will en dup a recall i dont see why the 250 wasnt included with the recent recall on the actuator recall i pretty sure they used the same bolt on both
