Default 2006 IS250 oil filter housing inner problem

Hi All, Just changed the oil filter but wonder if something may have been broken. I will try to describe the part what I believe may have been broken. The Fliter came out with a metal tube with holes in it but I realized it should be attached to a flange at the bottom of housing and the filter should just slide over it. I pulled the tube out of the filter and have pushed it back onto the flange in the housing and then replaced with a normal with the new filter. My question is should that inner pipe have come away from the flange or is it broken. I have completed the oil change and everything seems OK but I am just a little concerned and wonder if I need a new part for the housing. I beleive I can remove the filter ,if I have to, without losing too much oil. Thanks Dennis

Default 2006 IS250 oil filter housing inner problem

Hi, Thanks for your reply and photo but just to clarify the centre of the filter as shown, the tube with the holes in it, pulled out with the old filter away from the housing. In other words the old filter and the tube were as one. I had to then seperate the two and fix the tube back in the housing so I could then slide the new filter over it. (This was a push fit). It just seems odd that the tube should come out with the filter and I wonder if perhaps it is originaly spot welded and if this has become undone. Also if so, do I need to replace this however means draining the new oil to fit a new one. Your help is appreciated. Thanks Dennis

the tube can come out, if you look at it its designed to be a push and turn to lock it into the housing. My guess is that who ever did the last oil change pulled it out but did not turn it to lock it into place.

Hi, You could be right and it does sound if this tube part is broken as the flange has seperated from the base of the tube. I did connect them together then placed the tube with its flange as you have suggested by twisting but I am concerned just in case they come apart within the housing. It may not but I just don't know. I trust will need to find out the part number for this and check. Thanks Dennis

I never knew that inner pipe section could be removed. During the handfull of oil changes I've made on my 2IS, I've never had the pipe appear to be loose or become dislodged from the canister itself. Hopefully it is as simple as pressing it back down and turning.

It would appear that it does and should move around but I think the spot weld on mine has come adrift so next time I change the filter I will have it repaired. Don't wish to buy a new part as I have been quoted £53.00. Just like to thank all of you here and across the pond for your help. Dennis
