Lexus Recall
#19
Lexus has among the industry's highest customer retention rates for this reason. Things go wrong with cars, especially new engine designs. Any new design utilizing new technologies combined with performance and fuel economy in mind has a potential for problems.
The 250 obviously has its quirks and the 350 with its high compression engine and direct injection has the potential to have design issues creep up that cannot be detected in testing. It's how a company handles problems that sets them apart. And the issues with direct injection is not Lexus alone as BMW and other are grappling with issues of their own. Actually far more than Lexus. You are still talking about a brand that has the highest reliability ratings in the industry.

Not trying to burst anyone's bubble, Lexus is required by law to report possible safety defects to the DOT. After review of the defect, the Feds determine if a recall is required. The exception would be what they call a voluntary recall.

Every car manufacturer has problems at some point. It's how they deal with those issues that really defines how good they are. Overall, I don't think this at all discredits their overall reliability and build quality.

You're probably right. My mistake is reading forums like this to start with - all the problems just pop right out . All manufacturers probably have similar problems (and varying solutions - good or bad), I just don't hear about them.

This is getting ridiculous. How many recalls did the IS350 have so far? I got the windshield one done last week, valve spring, sticky gas pedal, now this.
Let's not even talk about the 10 TSIB I got also. Unbelievable. Where are the people that keep bragging about how reliable a Toyota/Lexus?

indeed most manufactures do not give free recalls out of warranty dates, i remember when the e46 era mind you Flagship m3 had a recall on rod bolts and had to turn down the redline and wasnt fix if out of warranty
same era in ther mercedes was know to have horrible electrical problems
im way past my warranty 06 is250 with 83k miles and not even the first owner and they still serviced my car with most recent recalls , im glad toyota/lexus is doing it the right way and beyond in service
