Default Extended Warranty - Help Requested

So I recently purchased a 2007 IS350. Yesterday I stopped by my local Lexus dealer to pick up some touch up paint and talk to the service department about work they had performed on the car.

During the discussion, the service adviser told me the previous owner bought an extended warranty (8 yrs or 100,000 miles). However, he told me since I purchased the car from a Ford dealership, the warranty was not transferred to me. He offered to let me talk to the Finance Department, but I didn't take him up on it because I assumed they were going to try to sell me a new warranty.

Is there anything I should be doing to try and get it transferred? Is it even possible?

Thanks in advance for your help. =)

Well I would talk to the finance department and see... they can tell you what product the guy bought and then you can read the terms.

I don't really think you can be sold an extended warranty at this point so your only option is to get the old one moved to your name.

you should definitely be able to transfer the warranty, i am 100% sure of that.

Most warranties will also have a small fee for transferring (usually maximum of $50).

Now, I know this should be done with the sale however. Considering the car has already been sold and some time has passed I dont know for sure, but if you try you should be able to get it regardless.

Normally finance would do this, the sales guys never deal with the warranties. Well at least when I was selling cars

Agreed with the others.. go talk to the finance department.

With this warranty when you sell your car you have a choice of transferring it to the new owner, or getting a prorated rebate for the unused portion. There is a chance the previous owner got some money back which would mean you are out of luck, however based on what you've written there is a chance that nothing was done and you could then get it transfered over to you. Really? when I bought my car, the warranty transferred over to me with the VIN. I went to the lexus website, typed in the vin and put that I was the new owner of the car in that whole My Lexus and when ever I call about my car, everything comes up in my name. Never paid a transfer fee or anything

Thanks for the replies everyone. I called the Finance Dept. They are going to check out my vin and call me back. Lets hope the previous owner didn't get the prorated refund.

Well, unfortunately the Finance rep from my local Lexus dealer said the warranty was not transferable. Should I let it go or is there another course of action I have?

Did he said why it's not transferable? If the previous owner got a refund, then you're out of luck.

Nope, the rep didn't say why. I specifically brought up that point, and she more or less ignored the concept.

Talk to someone else ask for the finance director or make a complaint and I bet she will look more into it. You have to demand answer

The original post does not say if it is a Lexus warranty. Is it a Lexus or 3rd party warranty?

this is a extended powertrain warranty from doing the valve spring recall. it is transferable if you have the handbook . If you dont have the handbook then you can not transfer it. The handbook had the previous owners info
