Default LED Headlamp Bubbling Defect

Does anyone know what exactly is the cause for the LED headlamp bubbling defect? From what I can see, it's either the heat from the projector bulb or the heat dissipated from the LED's. I'm not sure how well the heat dissipation is designed into these LED headlamps, when i plugged in the LED headlamp for a few minutes and then felt the PCB, it felt rather warm for only a few minutes operation. The LED's inside the headlamps are 1W each and they produce immense heat. So it got me thinking that the heat generated from the LED's might even have something to do with the bubbling defect.

I think it's poor quality paint. I'm guessing it's a combination of both of what you stated and heat from the sun.

You can just get them replaced under the TSIB.

I recently got retrofitted the latest TSIB headlights (2 weeks old) and it looks like Toyota suspects that the issue is that the projector was too close to the surface area that was bubbling up. From what I've seen it looks like they have adjusted the projector to sit about 1/4" in further into the housing that how they were originally designed.

Also before anyone asks me how I came about this conclusion...it is because I had another set of LED headlights from my old car that have the eyelashes but pre latest TISB and those projectors further out. Aside from that I could not tell any other difference but perhaps Toyota has asked the manufacturer to change the paint type.

Thanks for sharing, B16da9. I was thinking about stopping by the dealership tomorrow to show them since I still have the original 2011 headlights. Do you know if there is a new TSIB number? I would like to get them to install these new ones you are talking about.

I thought you were going to change your lights a while ago. Still haven't changed it?

My replaced ones are still going great.

My headlights were replaced last week. The paperwork says TSIB 005-12.

Oh ok. That's the same number from original TSIB in early 2012. Probably just different part numbers now if they changed the headlights again recently.
