As I understood it, they've only diagnosed the problem. The fix comes next week, with the supposed price.

Well, after the repair is completed make sure to post the details of the invoice or the repair itself because "VM" or "VMI" does not make any sense.

Ok, Lexus is handling the bill. They've apparently never seen something like this before. The guy told me that the VDT gear came loose (or a screw holding it in?). It seemed to have then cause some internal damage to the camshaft, piston and/or valve. Anyway, it sounded bad. But since they are covering everything, I'm happy!

I will post a complete update / explanation once I get the car back (Tues/Wed). Thanks to everyone for their responses and feedback!

If there is any chance you can get verification on the specifics of what actually "let loose" we all will be forever greatful! If it is as simple as making sure something is torqued properly, I would love to ensure mine is prefect!

Question, have you had ever previously had Lexus perform the "cam rattle" TSIB on your car?

Thanks!

Of course - I will post the full update once I get it. As for the cam rattling recall, I'm not sure. If it was a required or recommended TSB, then yes, as I've had all of the TSBs done.

Car has 58k or so. Thanks!

By what the OP said on the bottom of the first page, it makes be believe a bolt from the VVT cam gear came loose and started bouncing around everywhere causing issues. Well, we currently have a recall out to fix this issue...in fact, my '06 IS350 is going in under the knife tomorrow for it.

Yes, OP here - it's been a little while now. Some kind of loose bolt was the cause, but it ended up causing a loosening of the camshaft, which bent some of the valves. Everything damaged was replaced by Lexus for no charge (it was out of warranty), so I was pleased with the response.

You sir are one of the few "lucky" ones why we have currently this "cam rattle" recall in place. Glad Lexus took care of you and replaced everything.
