when do you think the price drop on the 2013 occur?
Hey Guys,
I had a 2008 IS350 with all the fsport goodies and had to sell it a few years ago due to responsibilities that I had to take care of. I'm not sure if I want to get the 2014 model and was wondering if the 2013's will be dropping in price anytime soon or will it be in May/June when the 14's come out.
I wouldn't mind picking up a 2013 Fsport model in SFP/USB or Matador red if the prices are thousands below invoice. Seems like the going price is around 300-550 over invoice at this time.
Thanks

Depends where you live, how many competing dealers their are in your area, how many vehicles they have in stock, and supply and demand. As the new model gets closer to debuting, there's no question the price of the 2IS will become sweeter. This usually becomes evident on TV when Lexus starts airing lease specials that are lower than anything before. That and monitor your local dealer's online website for specials. Also check places like Edmunds.com for current rebates.

Have you considered just getting a 2011 or 2012 model CPO? I've seen them on the lots lately - most of them with really low mileage and in like new condition. Probably people trying to ditch them before the newer model gets in. There wasn't really anything major that changed between 2011-2013 models. Plus you get the 3 year/100k CPO warranty (Which is absolutely excellent - speaking from experience). You'd be driving a basically brand new car without the brand new price - someone else took a depreciation hit.

i would wait till late summerish when the 2014 3rd gen becoems available. Or if you are lucky, check around fall because dealers are trying to get rid of inventory. To sell 13 models, 12 models need to be sold first. ymmv

ok guys, I have my old salesman who originally sold me my 08 IS350, offer me a 5300 dollar discount on either a SFP or USB....man I want to pull the trigger. He said there aren't that many left and they don't plan on getting anymore due to the 2014's that are being made.

I would bet they will not do much discounting since demand is so strong. Plus, the 2013 is a TON more reliable than the reworked 2014 will be. I feel bad for the folks who get it the first year and deal with all the issues. Always wait 1 to 2 years for the bugs to get worked out.

Total BS. I've had one if the first 2G IS and NEVER had an issue. Lexus is not GM or BMW.

Consumer Reports dropped the reliability rating for both the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey when they did a refresh a few years ago. I am not saying Lexus is unreliable, but clearly a model with 7+ years of corrections and revisions would be more reliable than the very first time a car goes into mass production.

Sorry Jimbo, not trying to get nasty on the boards here. I am very happy your 1 car was perfectly reliable. Read any reliability study on cars and you will see models take a dip when revamped and then get better year by year as the maker fixes things that do not stand the test of time.
Here is an article making my point: "Consumer Reports has found that this is often the case, where a newly introduced car will have quality problems during its first year of production. Nuisances like electrical gremlins and body and rattle noises pop up over the first model year of a new car, but CR has found that these “growing pains” tend to subside after the second and third years of production.
In a 2005 study that focused on 79 new car models from 2000 to 2002, Consumer Reports reported that new and redesigned models averaged 41 problems per 100 vehicle in their first year, while second- and third-year examples have 33 and 29 problems, respectively, per 100 vehicles."

^ I usually wait for the 2nd or 3rd model year before buying my cars. My 1991 MR2 turbo in it's first model year had issues which were covered under warranty and TSB's. The issues I had were CD/radio player malfunctioning, steering wheel not up to NHTSA safety standards. Transmissions were very notchy until the revised one came out two years later. AC valve issues which was corrected later on. Rear suspension that was very twitchy which was corrected/nuetered in 93.
I'm thinking of going a different direction and purchasing an Audi A5 instead...we'll see in a few months.
