Default Fixing curb rash

Ive seen a couple write ups on fixing curb rash. Most which have you painting the entire wheel when done. But can you get away with just painting the curb rashed areas?

A Lexus dealership put a pretty big gash in my wheel when they drove it in the service area. They painted the affected area and it looked new again. I couldn't tell where they painted. It is possible.

If you take it to a wheel repair shop they can do the spot and look like new.

You can always touch up the paint, but nothing will look as good as painting a larger area. It's like using the touch up paint on your car verses taking it to a body shop and having them spray the area.

Take it to the dealer or to a wheel repair shop. I started a thread (you should delete that for me by the way Mariano) and the Permatex kit I tried was a complete fail. I got so aggravated with it that I never even finished the attempt. A hard curb rash will have actually made grooves in the metal of the wheel, which need to be sanded down and/or filled in before you paint it. The kits available for this as a DIY are clumsy and the epoxy is difficult to work with. I speak from experience when I say that you should pay to have the rash repair. From what I've read, many people have had these done for around $50 which makes trying to do it yourself just that much more ridiculous.

Dealer has repaired 2 wheels for me and both turned out fantastic and the repairs were extrememly reasonable. Unless I really look hard I would never know something was repaired. Keep in mind the dealer does a lot of this work because they are forever prepairing used cars to be sold.

I've attempted DIY repair with bondo and 1g1 tungsten pearl touch up paint as my factory rims are a similar color. Looks ok.
