research carbon buildup on the 250 and then decided if you'd like to take that gamble

Its ont a matter of wether you believe its true or not. Its a proven fact that it has carbon buildup issues due to direct injection not washing over the intake valves, and at 96k miles the car is well out of powertrain warranty unless it has a preexisting extended warranty.

So take that information and do what you will with it.

It's out of warranty. Also, if it is not the price you're too concerned about, you should be looking in the 50k mile range if you want a 250.

96K miles seems a lot to me no matter the make and model of the vehicle. I agree with what others have said, you should find one with less miles if money is not really an issue. You might be able to pick up a 250 with less miles if you were willing to spend a few thousand more. Hopefully, you can find one that is still under warranty or has extended warranty. Good Luck OP.

if money isn't an issue i would get one with lower miles. With that being said the 2is's are very reliable and there are many members on here with 100K+ with no (or minor) issues.

Also in regards to the carbon issue on the 250's its a known problem but I believe that lexus is taking care of it up to 100K??

Lexus is taking care of it up to 9 years, UNLIMITED mileage and no restrictions on change of ownership as long as it was never salvage titled.

Call your local dealership to ask about the carbon buildup. One of my local dealers told me that "IS250's do not have a carbon buildup issue"... They refuse to ackowledge it, but i dont have that issue with my 250 so i didnt press the issue.

Yes, the problem is only with the IS250; the 350 is design differently from what I heard. Lexus has extended the warranty for just this carbon build up issue to 9 years with unlimited miles, so you don't really have to worry about it unless you want to keep the car longer than 9 years.

To be specific the 350 has not only direct injection, but also port injection, which keeps the valves clean by washing fuel over them.
