Default What is safe to clean engine

In the process of changing my spark plugs and filters. My engine is dusty, going to use air hose to blow out everything. Is there a spray that is safe to put on everything? Any tips would be great.

My mechanic uses WD40, he sprays that on all the plastic and metal parts and wipes it off with a rag, then uses that same rag to wipe off the rubber hoses and pieces.

Always comes out squeaky clean and helps a little with rust proofing.

Simple green or an all purpose cleaner diluted with water. Make sure you cover up some of the electronics, plugs, etc with foil before you start

I just use a damp rag, but i guess spraying some cleaner into the rag first would be a better idea.

I've used Foamy Engine Brite on previous vehicles with good results.
