Default 60k

I bought an 08' IS350 a few weeks ago, I just hit 60k.

Now I don't know when the oil was changed but the service light is not on. So bit confused.

I was thinking of just ordering the parts from Sewell (since everyone seems to love them and the prices seem fair)

Unfourtuntly I do not have the tools, knowledge or place to do any maintenance so I have to take it somewhere. I was wondering if I got the parts and brought it to the dealership and asked them to perform the service (without asking for the 60k service) if that would be cheaper.

Just thought I would get everyone's input on this.

On a side note I looked up the information on lexus.com and does anyone know where I can look up the codes so I can see what they did.

Also I think I need to get the Nav updated, where did you all get the upgrade from?

register your car here and you will be able to pull up the service records and so on
https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/lex...on/register.do

I do my own oil changes but the dealer is reasonable just like any other oil change shop just depends on whether you wanna use synthetic or conventional oil. I'm not sure if you can bring your own oil, and oil filter though.

I order the parts and have the dealership do the labor. Saves a few in the long run. Sewell (a vendor on the site btw) has the nav disc as well. Bundle it all together to (kinda) save on shipping.

Both what RDIS250AWD and UniSlayEX said are solid suggestions. If you can DIY it will save some $ and also allow you to check other things out on the car and become familiar with it.

I personally buy my parts from Sewell (filters, spark plugs, ext) and DIY in my garage.

LaVaism, what part of Texas are you in?

Sewell is great... but it's just a shame us Texans have to pay tax! But it's a much better option than buying directly from a local dealer.

It is well advised to buy the items you need and take it to the dealer for them to use. That way you just pay a labor charge instead of an exorbitant price mark up on parts. You can take them to a Lexus dealer or even a Toyota dealer. Have you considered an independent shop? This is why I ask where you live... I may be able to give you suggestions as to where to go.

If your car doesn't show service records from the link RDIS250AWD provided, it wouldn't really hurt it to get an oil change. That way it's on your schedule and it's your peace of mind.

Buy your navigation update disc at Sewell as well.

@karasha - I am living in San Antonio

Good advise, I'll buy the parts from Sewell and take it to the dealership to have them do the brakes, oil, and spark plugs. Unless I can find a good shop to do it at.

I wouldn't mind doing it myself but my Apartment complex freaks out if you put a car up on blocks to work on it. Plus not going to lie, I know computers very well....cars eh not so much. I would be afraid of doing more harm than good. Once I buy a house and have a garage I'll start to venture out.

Purchase the needed 60k kit off of Sewell and pay a shop to install everything...not the dealership. Oil, filters, plugs...how hard can that be.

I thought about that, did some research and found a shop that has some high reviews, I figured I would give them a try. You would think it is not that hard, but I know the idiots at Wal Mart once cracked my oil pan on my old car.
