you CAN lower the ride height of the awd 2is and NOT get drivetrain issues.
and even though you could go with larger wheels, you'll need lower-profile tires to retain oem rolling diameter, which means you won't be eliminating any of that "gap".

btw getting bigger rims will not eliminate the wheel gap, my car is dropped on springs no issues at all. I'm even running a staggered set up right now but as long as the overall diameter is the same or very close to stock you wont have any issues
