Unhappy Rotten egg smell!

Hi Guys,

I've got a 07 IS250, every time I take my car onto the freeway driving 100km/h+, it seem to always have this rotten egg smell. I'm not too sure whether or not this is normal? Has anyone else had the same problem? If so, how can I get rid of it?

It might not be the case on the ISX50 but from an ex mechanics point of view that smell is usally a sign of bad catalytic converter.

Cats definitely. Run your car really hard and then stop and look under and see if the cats are glowing. If so they're definitely are bad.

It can also be bad gasoline. Toyota Cats are very picky about their gas.

If it is the problem then you definitely have bad cats. Its probably the primary cats under the car.

I still highly doubt you have a problem that needs attention. This happens a lot of times under heavy throttle, when the cats arent completely warmed up.

If this happens at any point in the throttle spectrum, with and without AC on, during both warm and cold engine, thats the only time I'd say this needs to be brought up to Lexus for cat inspection. And if it is your primary cats, those are connected to your headers, so they would replace both i assume.

Like i said, i dont think you have a "problem" though...

EDIT: FWIW, Since installing headers (which removes primary cats) and inserting high flow cats into my JoeZ race exhaust (which had no cats), i have never had this smell, where as i had it on occasion before (as stated, when i got on the gas to get on the highway when the cats werent warmed up)

Agree. Mine does it if I've been driving like a granny (no offense) for a while then get on it.
