Default Getting vibration at 80mph and above

So I just drove from LA to Seattle a few days ago and I'm getting vibrations in the car when it gets to 80mph and above. Any ideas on what could be the problem? Alignment? Bent wheel/s? Need wheel balancing done? Any help would be appreciated.

Wheel balancing is the likely suspect

Are they stock or aftermarket wheels?

If they're aftermarket, did you use hub rings?

If you did, check the balance on a road force balancer such as the hunter unit. That will tell you if its off balance, out of round, bent, etc.

If that doesn't do it, get an alignment (highly unlikely it will fix the vibration but its the next cheapest option)

If that doesn't work, it might be something suspension or mechanical.

Sorry if I didn't mention they are aftermarket rims. And I didn't use hub rings. How do they help the car with aftermarket rims? I've had my Volks for some time now and this is the first time I've had this. I'm getting my alignment and the road force balancing done right now. Hopefully those fix the problem. Thanks for the help!

^ Either that will fix it, if not you need to flip or get new tires

Most wheel manufacturers design their wheels with a centerbore large enough to fit on most cars. Therefore, since wheel manufactures make their center bore large enough to fit most cars, most wheel fitments have a gap between the hub and the centerbore. This gap usually doesn't allow for the wheel to fit hubcentric but rather lugcentric which causes vibration. Therefore, to fill the gap and ensure the fitment is hubcentric, hub rings are used.

First thing I would do before any of the above is make sure your lugs are tight. I had a vibration that was only noticeable above 70mph and I found out that I had two loose lugs on my front passenger wheel. I tightened them up and everything is good now.

not to mention even with aftermarket wheels its ideal to run hub rings anyway. its better to have the stress on the hub then the lugs

Have a tire shop check the wheels; one could be bent. Exact same thing happened to me at 75mph on OEM wheels.

Ditto, same thing happened to me, and my wheel was bent at the hub so it was hard to notice until they put it on a balancing machine.
