2 Questions About Hard-Wiring 12V Outlet
All,
Today I decided to wire up a spare 12V outlet under the driver's side dash. I have my iPhone on a mount on the left side of my steering wheel and wanted to use the extra outlet to run power to it.
Question #1 involves the fuse box under the steering wheel. All of the 10 amp fuses I tried there all have either constant power or are only powered when the lights are on. I was hoping to find one where there was power whenever the car was on. My iPhone charger has a little LED light on it and I don't like the idea that it's on all the time if connected to constant power (I know, it'll probably take a LONG time to drain the battery, but it still bugs me). Anyone know of a fuse on that panel to get power to charge my iPhone that only provides power when the ignition is on?
Question #2. The AUX cable plugs into the iPhone charger under the dash, and it's plenty long enough to reach the the AUX input in my armrest (2008 IS250). I'm trying to find a way to route the cable into the armrest so that it's hidden. Has anyone got a way to do that? I thought about taking the rear passenger ashtray out and drilling a hole there or something, but not sure that's the best method. Anyone that has a better way I'd sure love to hear it.
Thanks!

I wired my radar detector directly to my fuse box and used the moonroof fuse. It only has power when the car is on and is not used that much.
No idea about your wire hiding deal.
Good luck.

tap into the cig outlet in front of the shifter. extremely easy to take it apart and it is "switched" power which means its only on when the vehicle is on and other wise it is off. make sure to "in line fuse" your new cig socket and dont run something like a power inverter off of it AT the same time you are running your iphone charger and you wont have any issues. I have numerous accessories running off my oem socket wires. doing this ensures that you dont have to mess with wire taps and all other sorts of terrible installation practices as you would be splicing into actual wire via military wiring practices.
if you want to wire your AUX cable. run it down our steering wheel, pop off the panel with the PWR/Snow all the way over to the driver side of the car, and run it behind all that good stuff, then over to the center consol and up that consol (on the interior of it). then, in the center consol, closest to the aux, there is a slit. pry it up and you will see the "secret passage". nick a small hole in the corner and boom all done and looking clean.
-see experience below. plus the 10000000000000 times I have taken things apart or wired switches/accessories in my IS250. let me know if you have questions.

Pictures of how to take apart the dash are available on this site, just search. I have a few pics I can dig up somewhere of my wiring under my shifter. What pictures are you looking for specifically?
