One thing you'll come to find out is there's no logical way to make her understand. Promise you that

Your best shot is to let her know it's a hobby that you enjoy, and pray that she doesnt hit you with the "buying shoes/purses is her hobby"

doesnt work out
Well good thing she doesn't like to shop.

Does the significant other have a modded car?
The only mod she has is 350Z lowering springs on her g35 sedan.

I guess I'm the lucky one here...
I dont have a wife but I do have a gf and she's really understanding.
Best thing is that her father owns a shop and a wheelhouse so its good for business! She's into cars as well and she's hoping to get a 370z soon.

Just don't ask. She'll forgive you. Just factor the price of a nice dinner and flowers into every mod and you'll be laughing. Probably.

My wife and I have separate personal checking accounts on top of our joint accounts. We call them "Mad Money" accounts because the other person can't get mad when we buy something from those accounts. Ie. shoes for her and car stuff for me

Yep, no money fights at all. If I want something, I just use my "Mad Money" account and she can't say anything about it. The only time she has complained is when it affects her too. For instance, I wanted to by a quad and she was complaining about it taking up too much space in the garage.
