Default Need some input from CL!

CL members,

I am looking to trade in my truck (2009 Crewmax tundra) for a 2012 Lexus IS 350 F-Sport.
Here's a pic of my truck now:

It's fully loaded and I spent about $8100 give or take.
So some of you may ask why I'm trading it in or selling it. Well, it's time for me to get something that has better gas milage. I love my truck and all, but the Lexus has more pros to it than my truck. I've never driven a small car my life so I'm wondering how big of a change I will be expecting. Do you think I'll like it? Yes, I know it's personal preference, but I know some if not many of you were in my position before. I'm also 6 foot so I don't know how I'll fit in the 350. Do you guys think it's worth it to get a 350? Hopefully I get the best advice possible because I will be visiting Lexus thursday and making my decision. Hopefully I'll be an official CL member!

Thanks in advance guys!

yes on the 350, but i'd take a test drive first before making it a definitive "yes".

with your truck, that's true, there's a lot of positive feedback with regards to IS350 but still will depend on you,you can start here.......

test driving the car is best way to know if you are comfortable with the car..

It will be a but of a change from you from just the perspective (much lower) and the handleing (because the 350 is so much smaller) I expct you will be making super wide turns in it until you get aquanted with it =D.

I have an '11 350 F sport and love it, plenty of power for around the town, looks hella sexy, and should last you 200k+ miles with regular maintenance!

I'm also 6'1" 250lbs and it fits me perfect, any larger and I don't think so but it hugs like a glove. I think that you will especially like the bucket style seats that come with the f sport package as they make a huge difference compared to say an ES loaner i've gotten where i'm sliding around the entire car.

On the freeway if i'm baby'ing it at 60-70 I can pull about 32 MPG constant. Average for me (10% streets 90% freeway) is about 25-27mpg which should be a huge step up from your truck.

As said before go give it a test drive, and also keep in mind your on the CL forums so of corse we are gonna love the Lexus =D

Good luck to you and hope to see you as a owner soon

Sounds like gas mileage is important to you. No Lexus is good for gas mileage, mostly because they use super unleaded. Average is 25-27 mpg but the prices are higher so it still hurts to fill up the tank and use it up in one week. May I suggest a Corolla?

Not only that, the higher gas is in general, the less using premium is a..well... premium... charge.

At $1 a gallon paying 20 cents more (most places here) for premium is a 20% surcharge.

At $4 a gallon paying 20 cents more is a 5% surcharge.

FWIW a 2008 corolla is rated at 35 mpg highway and has 126 hp.

My 2008 IS350 gets 28-30 mpg highway and had 306 hp.

So the Lexus takes a 15-20% mileage hit in exchange for almost 2.5 times the hp (and vastly nicer interior, handling, and luxury features)

Pretty good trade in my book.

I see your point, but I live in the New Orleans area where gas is a little bit cheaper than across the country. Gas is usually 3.65/gallon for regular. I get 12/16 mpg which sucks, it takes me to fill up every 6 days if I'm lucky. Granted premium still hurts the wallet, but I'm sure it'll last me a little longer than my truck. Corolla? I'll pass, nothing against Corollas. One of the main reasons I'm interested in a Lexus is because my note for my truck is $650+ with a 7.9% interest rate. If I were to get a Lexus, the payment will either be the same or a little higher, it all depends on how much I put down and the trade in value. Thanks for the input though!
