Angry Fender Bender - What would you do?

Had to run to the store earlier today, this is what i walked out to... Its nowhere near the damage that I have seen in other threads recently, just curious what other people thought of this damage and the situation.

Apparently this guy was in a hurry to get to the bar, he took his keys out but left the vehicle in drive It rolled forward and into mine, but he failed to notice... Police showed up and found the guy in the bar (it was 2PM).

Once he backed up his car, we were able to see the damage. He offered me $100 on the spot to not deal with insurance... I talked him up to $300 and we called it a day. I was able to look under the bumper and see the metal frame looked straight. Also, all of the joints where the bumper meets the body panels are all still in line and spaced good.

So, here is what I want to know.... would you have done the same or dealt with this through insurance? Was $300 enough or would you have asked for more?

I know $300 won't cover a new bumper, but don't think I'll need that.... there is some minor paint damage and a very light crease in the plastic bumper (which is nearly impossible to see in these pics). I think once the paint is fixed you likely won't notice the crease.

Thoughts?

repaint. there's a reason you have insurance...

just curious, what were you thinking about doing about this?

Well it looked pretty minor to me, so i talked him up to $300 for the damage... he gave me cash and we shook hands. The bumper wasn't perfect to start with, but I figure getting this wet sanded and touched up won't be near $300. I had some scratches fixed in wifes car, so I know a shop that does good work at reasonable rates. The small crease might nag at me, but I doubt others will notice...

Hoping I can get paint fixed for a reasonable price and have some cash left over for mods

In my opinion a good paint job for that repair would probably cost more than $300

this is exactly what a bumper is for!! Take that 300 and buy some 7 dollar touch up paint and wait for the next idiot to hit you again

Rubbing compound will take care of most of that.

$300 is nowhere near enough for a paint job.

pocket it, use some rubbing compound, and buff it out. you'll get dings on your bumper again.

I was in a rear end accident caused by two cars behind me
hit the car in my rear and then it bumped into me
insurance gave me around $420 (it was the two screw marks and the plate frame printed on my bumper)

maybe you should ask higher lol

not having it go through insurance for him cost 300 which is a lot less than his deductible im sure lol should have asked for a little more than 500 just in case like that you'd have guarenteed mod money $$ im sure he would be a lot more careful after paying out of pocket for his mistake lol sounds greedy but no one told him to hit your car in the first place >=/

Damage doesn't look too bad. I agree with everyone else, I'd just try to buff it out and repaint it with some touch up. I'd pocket the $ for some additional mods. Oh yeah, next time ask for more. LOL Good luck on the repairs.
