If you did not find DIY thread on this here at CL, there is a good one at myIS forums.

found a good one just none showing how to take out the lid. On another note when fixing this should i have left the car on a recirculate position where the lid is open or non recirculation and the lid is closed

The guy who did the DIY noted that he did it on fresh air. Otherwise the screw to remove the servo arm will be obstructed.

Is fresh air when the lid is closed and it's the button to the right side correct?

Fresh air = Lid closed
Recirculate = Lid open
And yes, fresh air indication light is on the right side of the button. Let us know how did the fix go. I broke my servo arm too, but it seems like its a lot of work to fix this so i never did. Always used to drive in fresh air mode anyway.
